Andrew Logan

The wonderfully inimitable Andrew Logan, sculptor, jewellery designer and performance artist, was at the forefront of the 70s London’s Butler’s Wharf art scene where he shared a warehouse with other artists including Derek Jarman and Howard Hodgkin. It became renowned for its theatrical parties such as the 1976 Valentine Ball thrown by Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood at which the Sex Pistols played.

It was also the site of the Alternative Miss World which Logan set up in 1972 and which he still runs today. The mock beauty contest celebrating individuality and creativity, was won in 1975 by Derek Jarman dressed as Miss Crepe Suzette with Fenella Fielding and David Hockney as the judges. Several artists and performers have taken part in the pageant over the years including David Hockney, Leigh Bowery and Grayson Perry.
