Sharleen Spiteri

I went to collect Sharleen Spiteri‘s beautiful, teeny, tiny, black Gucci heels and was absolutely bowled over by her. Not only had she read up on the Small Steps Project but she told me it was a brilliant idea and she really wanted to support it. Not one to waste any time she started straight away, dragging Damon Gough from Badly Drawn Boy over, who also pledged to donate some funky trainers he had designed.  She then introduced me to Bernard Butler from Suede, who also promised his shoes.

That night Sharleen was playing a gig at The Groucho Club alongside loads of other musicians to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and she invited me back to try and procure the shoes off all her musician friends.

We returned with copies of the Small Steps Cambodia Documentary and gave out copies to: Tony Christie, Roland Gift, The Feeling and David McAlmont in return for their shoes. The only songstress we couldn’t catch up with was Sophie Ellis Bextor, so Sharleen said ‘Give me a dvd and I will get her shoes for you.’

I have met a lot of celebrities but to date no one like Sharleen before.  Not only did she go out of her way to help us, even suggesting an album with different musicians doing covers of shoe related songs (bagsying These Shoes Are Made For Walking for her!) but she also supports a children cancer charity.  What an inspiration, if only more celebrities used their power for as much good as Sharleen, the world would be a better place.  Now I am not one to plug much apart from rubbish dumps but if you are going to buy one album she has just released The Movie Song Book, so support someone who supports others-Sharleen Spiteri…a total angel!
