Sir Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney has been a music superstar since the age of 21.  From 1962 to 1970, the Beatles released 12 studio albums, wrote over 240 songs and toured constantly until 1966, playing their final show at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 29th.

One of the most influential singer, songwriters of all time, McCartney penned more hits for the Beatles than any other band member, and his songs Yesterday (the most covered song in recorded music history), Hey Jude, Let It Be and Hello, Goodbye provided the soundtrack to a generation.

As a solo artist McCartney has sold over 100 million albums, a similar number of singles and has been awarded 60 gold discs.

Among his multitude of honours and awards, in 2010 President Barack Obama awarded him the Gershwin Prize, the highest award a musician can receive in the US, making him the first non-American to receive the honour.

He’s an advocate for animal rights, vegetarianism and music education and has campaigned against landmines, seal hunting and Third World debt.

Nearly 50 years since the break up of the Beatles, in 2018 Paul McCartney released his 17th solo album, Egypt Station.
