Alejandro González Iñárritu

Before Hollywood came calling, the acclaimed director, producer and screenwriter, Alejandro G. Iñárritu ran his own production company working as a successful  commercials director in his native Mexico.

He made his film debut in 2000 with Amores Perros, the first in a trilogy followed by 21 Grams and Babel, the latter making him the first Mexican director to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director and the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing.  The trio of films starred Cate Blanchett, Sean Penn, Gael Garcia Bernal, Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Torro.

In 2015, Iñárritu picked up three Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for Birdman starring Michael Keaton. Another Oscar win along with four Golden Globe nominations followed in 2016 with the acclaimed Revenant.

In 2017 Iñárritu was awarded a Special Oscar for his virtual reality project, Carne Y Arena (Flesh and Sand) in which the viewer is placed in the Sonoran desert as a group of immigrants are confronted by guards as they attempt to cross the border illegally.
